By time the Late Model feature started, Tom Thomas had the championship wrapped up, and through most of the race, it appeared that Tom had that wrapped up as as well, until some oil on the track sent the first place running #82 into the turn one wall. Needless to say, it was a bitter-sweet evening for Thomas.

However, on lap 48 of the 100-lap feature, Thomas had a spectacular but scary crash in turn three. Tom was not hurt, but the red #82 didn't fare so well. Dirk Redder caught the the whole thing with a series of still pics.

Just a week and a half after Tom's crash, Scott Thomas nearly did the same thing during qualifying. Although on this occasion, Scott took the 28 late-model totally off the back stretch and into the styrifoam and tires behind turn three. Everyone thought that his night was over, but thanks to the hard work of Scott's pit crew (and members from several other crews), the #28 machine was back on the track in time to catch the heat race. Then, after some more tweaking, Scott Thomas climbed his way from 29th to 12th in the 50-lap feature.

Missed it by "that" Much (June 29, 2003)
On Saturday night, June 28, Tom Thomas just about won his second feature in a row. He lead most of the race, but on the last lap in turn 4 another car came up the track and into the #82 All Star Plumbing/Florentine Ristorante Late Model's left rear quarter panel, causing Tom to spin up into turn 4. Tom finished 20th. Scott Thomas had a far less eventful night. His #28 Northern Mortgage/Apple Valley Crafters/Model Coverall Late Model started 8th and finished 7th.

The Good and the Not So Good - Part 2 (June 13, 2003)
I'll be brief... Last Tuesday (June 10), Berlin Raceway held the Meijer/Tony's Pizza 100 featuring NASCAR Winston Cup drivers Johnny Benson and Tony Stewart. Scott Thomas qualified 4th out of 46 drivers and finished 8th in the 100-lap feature. Tom Thomas' motor blew up early in the day during hot-laps.

The Good and the Not So Good (June 9, 2003)
Scott Thomas had another solid run on Saturday (June 7) qualifying the #28 Northern Mortgage/Apple Valley Crafters/Model Coverall Late Model 10th, finishing 3rd and leading several laps early in the race. Tom Thomas wasn't so fortunate (again). The motor in the #82 All Star Plumbing/Florentine Ristorante Late Model "blew up" mid way through the 50-lap feature when Tom was running in 11th.

Pair of Top Tens (June 3, 2003)

Vander Vliet to the Rescue (May 20, 2003)
Once again, the #82 All Star Plumbing/Florentine Ristorante Late Model of Tom Thomas was in the wrong place at the wrong time. This time it happened on lap 1 of the 50-lap feature, when the two cars in front of Tom got together. Fortunately, there was a full restart, allowing Tom to jump into Doug Vander Vliet's #97 Late Model (big "thank you" to the Vander Vliets). Tom Thomas finished 6th after restarting the race 18th.

Scott Thomas' night started off well, qualifying 9th and starting the feature in the second row due to the 12-car inversion. With 20 laps to go, Scott had the #28 Northern Mortgage/Apple Valley Crafters/Model Coverall Late Model running in the top 10 when the motor let go. He ended up in 20th.

Looking for Some Luck (May 12, 2003)
Tom Thomas has seen his share of bad luck over the las two weeks. On May 3, Tom was caught in a three-car pile-up in turn 1, taking the #82 All Star Plumbing/Florentine Ristorante Late Model out of the race. Then on May 10, the Tom's #82 machine was damaged after the car in front of him spun, blocking the track. He ended up finishing 17th in the 75-lap race special event that included Johnny Benson and Dick Trickle.

Scott Thomas, so far this season, has been able to avoid trouble. He brought the #28 Apple Valley Crafters Late Model to a 6th place finish on May 3, and finished 16th in the 75-lap event on May 10, where Winston Cup driver Johnny Benson came in first and former Winston Cup driver Dick Trickle finished 15th.

Opening Night, Anything but Boring (April 30, 2003)
Berlin Raceway's opening night was April 26. Both Scott and Tom Thomas had pretty good nights, but it wasn't without incident. As the field took the green flag in Scott's heat race, a car in the second row lost control and scattered the whole field. The #28 Apple Valley Crafters Late Model made it through unscathed to finished 5th.

In Tom Thomas' heat race, the car just in front of him lost control while entering turn three. Tom gassed the #82 All Star Plumbing/Florentine Ristorante Late Model and got clear just in time. The two cars behind him weren't so lucky.

Scott finished the feature in 10th and Tom finished in 6th.

Scott Thomas had his work cut out for him on Saturday, passing 7 cars on his way to a 16th place finish in the #28 Apple Valley Crafters Late Model.

Another Wild One! (June 12, 2002)
On Tuesday night, June 11, Scott Thomas and Tom Thomas competed against two Winston Cup drivers, Johnny Benson and Tony Stewart. He ended up finishing 20th, several laps down.

Tom Thomas also had a strong run going in the main event until his #82 Florentine Ristorante Late Model became involved in a wreck. The long pit stop that resulted caused Tom to go down one lap and ultimately finish 12th.

What a Wild Night! (June 11, 2002)
The Late Model feature at Berlin Raceway last Saturday night (June 8) was wild, to say the least. Scott Thomas spun the #28 Apple Valley Crafters Late Model two different times to avoid wrecks in front of him, and Tom Thomas was sandwiched in the #82 Florentine Ristorante Late Model on lap 29 when coming into a large wreck that was started when the two lead cars got together. Only 2 Out of the First 5 Berlin Events See The Light of Day (May, 2002)
Can you believe that it's mid-May and Berlin has only run 2 of 5 events. Between bad weather and an injury to Johnny Benson, it has been a really slow start to the 2002 season.

On opening night (May 4), the #28 Apple Valley Crafters Late Model and the #82 Florentine Ristorante Late Model where both awesome. Tom Thomas qualified the #82 machine 8th followed closely by brother Scott Thomas, who qualified 9th. The feature race looked even better with Tom finishing 3rd and Scott finishing 5th.

On May 18, Tom Thomas fought an ill-handling car to finish 10th in the feature. Scott Thomas missed the feature race due in part to odd provisional rules and another driver who tried to drive through Scott's #28 Late Model in the Last Chance race. Scott went on to win the Late Model Consolation race by about 20 car lengths.

Tom is now 2nd in the point standings, just 78 points from Fred Campbell in 1st. Scott's 19th position in the point standings doesn't exactly tell the entire story. He is ony 118 points away from 10th.

June 28, 2001
WOW! On June 23, both Thomas brothers finished in the top 6 of the late model feature. Tom saw his second victory of the year and Scott finished 6th, a personal best in the late model division. The win moved Tom up from 4th to 2nd place in the points race.

Early on, it looked like Tom may not even start the feature when the #82 Port City/Florentine late model slammed into the turn 1 wall during the heat race, destroying the right front suspension. Tom's crew, Scott's crew and many others pitched in to get the car race-ready by feature time. It was an amazing site to see!

June 18, 2001
WE'RE BACK! The site was down for a while, but now we're back.

On June 9 the Port City #82 late model of Tom Thomas saw its feature victory. It was a long time coming, but we're ecstatic that it is finally here. Lets hope that it's the fist of many this year.

Scott Thomas' highlight of the year so far came on June 16 when his Hair Cuts Plus #28 late model finished 8th in the feature race.

The Scott Baker Memorial 100 was run on May 12. Both Scott and Tom had respectable finishes in the 36 car field - Tom finished 6th, just ahead of Johnny Benson, and Scott finished 18th.

August 3, 2000
There was a lot of excitement on July 29 when Tom Thomas passed Randy Sweet to take the lead early in the late model feature. Tom held the lead until lap 25 when he fell back to 3rd, which is where he finished.

Scott Thomas qualified 26th and finished 18th. He said that the car was better than what the results show and expects to see a marked improvement next time.

Even though the late model feature was rained out on June 24, both Scott and Tom Thomas showed some good speed. Scott took the #28 Frito-Lay/WGRD late model to it's first heat race win. Tom also ran stronge in his heat, finishing second.

The rainout was made up by running 100 laps on July 1. Scott started 24th and finished 14th. Tom started in 16th and had worked his way up to 4th by lap 38, when a crash put him several laps down. Tom ended up 17th.

The last few weeks have gone pretty good for Thomas Motor Sports. Tom Thomas continues to make gains within the top ten in the point standings, especially helped by a second place finish on June 17. The motor of Scott Thomas' #28 Late Model has behaved itself during the last two weeks, allowing Scott to work on getting the car's setup where it needs to be to be competitive.

On a side note, Tammy Vander Sloot, Scott and Tom's sister, made it onto Chad Little's web site. Click here to go there. If you were at the Rockingham, Bristol or Michigan race, you may have seen Tammy working in the John Deere souvenir trailer with Tammy Little, Chad's sister.

There's not much new to report. Races were canceled for the second week in a row. On May 13, Tom finished 2nd in his heat race and 15th in the feature. Scott drove the #28 Fritos/WGRD late model to 3rd in his heat race and 2nd in the consi.

May 6, 2000
Tom had a great qualifying effort - he was 3rd fastest. In the 50 lap feature, he squeezed out an 11th place finish with an ill-handling racecar. Scott's season debut was delayed again due to technical problems getting the replacement motor running properly.

April 23, 2000
Saturday saw the return of racing to the Berlin Raceway (well at least racing practice). Tom Thomas' #82 late model was again among the one of the fastest. Scott Thomas had planned to have the Fritos/WGRD late model there, but a technical problem surfaced at the last minute.

April 9, 2000
The #82 late model of Tom Thomas turned some fast laps on April 1, 2000 at Kalamazoo Speedway's first practice of the year. He was 5th quick on the day, behind Andy Bozell, Fred Campbell, Randy Sweet and Jeff Bozell.

Watch for Tom Thomas' Florentine/Iserv late model at Kalamazoo Speedway's opening night, April 15. Then one week later, you can see both Scott and Tom Thomas at Berlin Raceway's test and tune. Berlin's opening night is April 29.

The last night of racing at Berlin Raceway was September 4. All divisions started by points (instead of qualifying), but no points were awarded for the races. Tom finished the feature in 3rd and Scott was 18th.

During the weekend of October 1, Tom qualified 25th quick in the 237 car field of the Kalamazoo Super Shoe. This had him starting 27th in the 25 lap A division last chance race. The top four advanced to the feature. Tom finished 5th.

July 24 was a great night for Thomas Motor Sports! Both Tom Thomas and Scott Thomas finished the late model A feature in the top 10. Tom was 4th and Scott climbed his way from 17th to finish 9th.

On July 31 Tom finished the feature in 8th place. Scott wasn't far behind finishing 11th.

Kalamazoo Klash VII was held August 11, 1999. Tom was the 18th fastest qualifier out of 70 drivers which included former NASCAR Craftsman truck driver Butch Miller and ASA drivers Dave Sensiba and Mike Eddy. On lap 134, Tom was running in 14th when a brush with the wall took him out of the race. He ended up 23rd out of the 32 car field.

On August 21, Tom qualified 2nd, edged out by Randy Sweet. In the late model feature, Tom finished 7th, Scott started 17th and finished 14th.

On August 28, Tom outqualified the entire field, setting fast time with a lap of 15.602 seconds. He finished 5th in the feature. Even though Scott suffered a flat tire late in the race, he was still able to salvage a 19th place finish out of the 24 car field.

7/22/99
On July 3, Tom looked really strong again, but an early race spin forced him to start his charge from the tail end of the field. By the end of the race, Tom was able to muscle the Iserv/Florentine late model up to 9th. Scott didn't run due to motor problems.

Late models didn't run at Berlin on July 10 due to the ARCA race. However, Tom was given the opportunity to drive the #22 Port City Racing house car at the Kalamazoo speedway. He won his heat race and finished 6th in the last chance race (top 5 are put into the feature).

Berlin cancelled the races on July 17 due to rain so Tom and his crew again headed to Kalamazoo, but this time with the #82 Iserv/Florentine car. They started 23rd in the 100 lap super late model feature and ended with an impressive 8th place finish.

6/27/99
In the last two weeks, Tom has been burning up the track. On June 19, Tom made a late-race charge, passing the #71 of Bob Holly and the #11 of John Grega, to finish second. On June 26, Tom battled door-to-door for second with the #17x of Rusty Parker, but Rusty was able to hold him off. Tom finished a strong third.

Scott continues to make headway in his bid for rookie of the year. On June 19, Scott had his best qualifying effort to date - 11th, and his best feature starting position - outside pole (the top 12 cars were inverted). He was running well, in the top 5, when a spin unfortunately sent him to the back. On June 26, Scott finished 14th.

6/12/99
Tonight, Tom qualified 6th which, with the inversion, put him in the front row, outside of Bob Holley, at the start of the late model A feature. A very strong start had Tom leading the first 23 laps of the 40 lap race. Tom was running 3rd behind Randy Sweet and Bob Holley when a caution came out on lap 37. When the green flag came back out, Tom spun going into turn one. He finished 12th.

Scott qualified 27th and finished 3rd in the late model B feature behind Tim Yonker and Brian Tillema.

6/9/99
Both Scott and Tom made the starting grid for the 200 lap main feature at the Berlin Raceway Summer Spectacular III held June 9, 1999. Tom was 22nd quick out of the 54 late models that qualified. He finished 12th. Scott was 23rd fastest in qualifying. He finished 14th.

6/4/99
This morning, Scott was part of a WGRD remote broadcast at Gainey Corporation. The event also included Gary St. Amant, driver of the #7 ASA car, Buddy Gainey, driver of the #4 ASA car, and Joe Dochod, driver of the #66 sportsman car.
